So, before coming to the defects: good. defects. Like most of the texts of such a review was less accurate as it passes through the pages. Towards the end, explanatory example, calls the suffragettes suffragettes. An error that did not make the rest of the book.
For the rest, made the tare of the modern passion for a certain snooty towards the overall interpretation and a substantial lack of understanding of Bettelheim's work on the fairy tale, is a very interesting text aimed at making clear the connection that, even in the fairy tale or better on the issues fairy tales, you shall be introduced between the contemporary and the Victorian era England and English culture in general.
(Just think of the fairy tales that Gaiman, author certainly English, introduced in the DC or the latest film by Tim Burton on Alice, not to mention just two examples in the book and the book have little relevance) . The problem, if anything, is that a work like that manages to be little more than introductory, given that suggests links between the two periods spanning several decades both. Connections that should be thorough, even taking into account that in reality both periods are far from homogeneous. Anyway a good read.
